If you look at any of the upcoming SS09’s shows recently at fashion week New York and fashion week London and even fashion week Paris you would have noticed a high use of obi belts – the Japanese asian style wrap belts.

Previously we had featured the award winning South Korean fashion designer Heo Nam Hee with his beautifully avantgarde and clean cut brand HAEGAL.

Here we bring you another fabulously talented Korean fashion designer – Kim Hae Toon, designer of South Korean brand FREAKS. Kim Hae Toon brings together designs that one could say have a western foundation and adds to them completely modern cuts and vintage details – this makes each of his pieces unmistakeably unique!

Look at this ultimately feminine and sexy purple dress! The dynamic draping and flow makes it an absolute eye catcher, this in combination with the rich colour makes any further extravaganza completely unecessary and creates an absolutely breathtaking dress.

Looking for something a bit more strict but still feminine at the same time? Then how about this shade of a warm brick red in an asymmetric cut? The straight cut collar and general asymmetric cut gives this dress a stricter feel than the draping and flowing purple dress above. The big billowing sleeves and beautiful curl give it a fabulous fit and keep it very feminine and give it a unique touch. When we think of Asian fashion and especially East Asian styles we usually tend to think of the Japanese Harajuku girls and their ecclectic styles which may range from cute lolita styles to crazy gothic trends but are however always extreme. You might have jumped to the conclusion that there is no more mainstream and daily wearable fashion from the region? You’re looking for something less cutesy than the Dodostyle eared hoodies but at the same time perhaps not as overtly Asian as the Nabi kimono dresses? One of my absolutely favourite Asian brands is without any doubt the South Korean brand Nabi. Nabi designers create lustrous and gorgeous oriental style dresses and tops and give them a modern twist making them very wearable but maintaining the old school oriental glamour with bold flower prints, gold brocade, heavy use of satin, velvet and silk and beautifully draping Kimono cuts in a mini dress version. Tartan, plaid, checks or gingham…whatever you want to call it, it’s everywhere and you can’t get away from it anymore! Who said this was limited to British fashion and Queen Vivienne Westwood…atleast since Italian cowboys Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabanna poured tartan all away over their runways this season its become public property – coats, jackets, shirts and dress all tartan all over the world!
